Kuwait Minarets
I love mosques. I love the very simple old old ones, made with clay, that look like they are slowly melting back into the ground, and I love the new modern ones that look like spaceships about to lift off, and I love all those in-between. I have so many photos of mosques, mosques minarets and mosques at sunset, in moonlight . . .
So here is my question for you: Do any Kuwait mosques use LIVE muezzin to call out the Call to Prayer?
Here are some Kuwaiti mosques I have photographed recently.
This one is near the Sadu House, in an area being renovated:
And here is what it looked like before renovation:
I LOVE this one – it’s old, but it has STARS on the side of the minaret, going toward the top, cut out, probably to allow light to filter in where there are, I assume, steps or maybe a ladder.
This mosque is between fourth and fifth ring, where you used to turn to get to the old IKEA:

I do think there are live Muezzins…at least some of the ones I hear sound like it.

Uh, Jewaira, I don’t know the names! The pre-renovation one probably looks like the first one, now, they are both visible from the Sadu House. The one with stars you can see from Gulf Road, travelling from the Behbehani compound towards the towers. The last one is just off 55, where you turn onto Canada Dry street.
the new one by my house is definitely live – I read this blog post, then listened for a few days and no doubt, it’s real because it’s been different for every single athan that’s been called.
I will have to come hear him! How special, Huda – I think most that I hear are all recorded.

I’ve often wondered the same thing, therefore I have no answer for you. However, I do have a question: Is it possible to get pictures of the interior of the mosques? I also am an expat and not sure what the ‘rules’ are.
Shel, the Kuwait muezzins are LIVE – in a later entry, we discuss it. Yes, you can get interior shots of mosques – but the rules vary from country to country and even mosque to mosque. For example, in Kuwait, the AWARE center does tours of the Grand Mosque, and I believe it is possible to take photos at that time, as well as learn something about the interior and practices. In Turkey, I have shot in the interior of the Blue Mosque and the old Hagia Sophia, now a mosque. Two very important words – “mumkin sura?” It means is it possible to take a photo. Most of the times if you ask, they will allow it.
Why is it that islam worshipers wants to erect mosque in a christain country and would not allow for church in a islamic dominated country.
