News from Florida
In Kuwait, the free press is still very cautious. They might hint at a story, they might give a few details, but they are still cautious about crimes which in other countries would be a matter of public record.
Here is a very sad story from the Florida news scene today:
State Representative Arrested for Prostitution Charge
State Representative Bob Allen was arrested Wednesday after offering to perform oral sex for $20 on an undercover male police officer, authorities said.
Veteran’s Memorial Park was under surveillance when Allen, Republican – Merritt Island, was seen coming in and out of a restroom three times. . . Allen, 48, then approached an undercover officer and was arrested.
He has been charged with solicition for prostitution, which has a maximum penalty of one year in jail. Brevard County officials said Allen posted a $500 bond.
For my Kuwait readers, a state representative is an elected official who helps make the laws. The Republican party is considers itself the guardian of public morals. So there is some irony in this story, as well as infinite sadness.

Hard to believe, but it gets worse. Bob Allen is also McCain’s House co-chairman for the Florida campaign… Hard to believe that someone in such a position could be blind to the fact that they are watched all the time! Sadly funny…
I can only hope he doesn’t have a wife and children. Holy Smokes, such a responsible position, and it is all GONE now.
“offering to perform oral sex for $20”
lmao! i always thought state reps got a decent salary š
lol i love the fact that he was charging for his “services”!
Oh my! **Laughing so hard I’m falling off my chair*** I actually was reading it that he offered to PAY $20 to perform his “services” on the undercover cop. Not sure which scenario is worse, but I was thinking it was a bit odder than usual. Guess they do need to pay state reps more – LOL! How terrible, though – even it he does not have wife/kids, no doubt he has some family that will suffer through this.
It is very odd, Skunk, very desperate, and very very sad.
Sparkle, do you think the pressure of his job got to him? It’s such a stupid, self-destructive thing to have done . . . I can’t imagine what would trigger it.
The stress may have triggered it, but its certainly not the source. No doubt his problem goes way beyond politics. If the story is accurate, that he went in and out of the restroom multiple times, then this is not the first time he’s done this, and its such overwhelmly self-destructive behavior that the issues must be long standing, although possibly escalating. He’s fortunate he was caught now, and can get help.
It is sickly pathetic and ironic. The Republican party has been suffering a lot of ills publicly lately. And I know that power corrupts, but perhaps before a political group holds themselves out to be the most moral, they should check themselves first.
Not to offend anyone’s political leanings, but I really think, in the WWJD questions, that Jesus would be a socialist, definitely not a republican.
Carly, I agree with you. Jesus said to the rich young man “Give everything you have, then come, follow me.” And it said that he LOVED the young man. But the young man couldn’t part from his riches.
I think Jesus would be working with Loaves and Fishes!
