Big Bubbas
I found my way to my seat, and looked around hopefully to see how full the plane was getting. Sometimes, this flight has some empty seats, and I am hoping one of them is next to me so I can sleep, get to Kuwait a little refreshed.
Two seats up, two very large men are looking at one another in dismay. I can hardly keep from laughing out loud – these are big, beefy American contractors, look like boys from the mid-West, one in farmer-like denim coveralls, both with big bottoms, big bellies, and huge big beefy shoulders. These kinds of guys spill way over the armrests, if you know what I mean.
“This isn’t gonna work,” says one to the other. They look around. One spots me, and says “Once the flight takes off, I’ll find a place to sit with a little more room.”
Ya’ll think I am really nice, but not so nice when it comes to having my territory invaded. I fluffed myself out to try to look bigger, and I scowled a very very UNFRIENDLY scowl. I would not want to sit next to someone who looked mean and unsociable like me!
Fortunately there was a lot of room on the flight, and the bubbas found places where they could be comfortable. I had an extra seat next to me, too, and got the sleep I needed. I no longer needed to scowl.
I still get a big grin though, thinking of the look on their faces when they thought of trying to fit those two great big bulky bodies into the already skimpy spaces allotted for two people.

lol plz tell me they weren’t in coach! that would have been awful sitting next to them in those tiny seats!
Mrm. yep. coach. *shivers in horror*
Uff! Saved, you are!
LOL!! I can so imagine that, I can tottally see that scene in a stupid/funnt wayans brothers movie!!!
Have you read “Air Babylon”? Maybe one of them was mean to the people at check in and they decided to play a “joke” on them HEHE!
Am I mean to laugh?!
And WELCOME BACK!!! π
Thanks be to God, Kaileena π
Chirp, those counter people have a LOT of power. I wouldn’t put it past them. It’s like applying for a job and being nice to the receptionist and the boss’s secretary/admin assistant – you never know who has the bosses ear! These were the two biggest guys on the plane – I didn’t think it was a co-incidence, but it was very funny seeing the utter dismay on their faces!
As for being mean. . . I had to ask myself the same question when I wrote the piece. First, I think it is mean of the airlines to give people such tiny seats and such a small amount of room and comfort in the coach section, but then again, they have to make a profit or they can’t keep flying. I also think there is a meanness in being SO big that you look for smaller people on whom you can overflow!
It would be discrimination for me to be dismayed when a huge person sat next to me, and it would be unkind. But to see two huge people look in utter dismay at one another – now THAT is funny to me!
I don’t think we are mean. I think we are paying attention to life’s little humorous moments.
And thanks for the big welcome back π
Grin, I can imagine. π
And many of these contractors are way too huge – ask me, I’m around them since 6 years.
I always wonder how the heck some of them can do the job they are supposed to do…. :S
My husband and I were talking about it today, Rainmountain. My husband said for some of them, eating is something to do. They work so hard, so many hours, and eating is one of their few pleasures.
Well, I dunno about pleasure, but I do know that most of them eat Fast food and kill some bags of Chips and such.
(A friend of ours is one of them and it makes me sad every time I see him…)
