5 Women Shot in Clothing Store

On AOL News this morning, there is a story about five women being shot in a Chicago clothing store. The story is still emerging; the police suspect it was a robbery.

I had a friend who lived in Berlin, when Berlin was still a divided city. From time to time she would be asked to take some visiting VIP across the checkpoints to see the sights and do some shopping in East Berlin. One time she took a distinguished visitor to a shop specializing in optics.

He cried out “DID YOU SEE THE PRICE ON THOSE BINOCULARS??”

Those were his last words. He clutched his chest and had a heart attack right then. He died on the sidewalk.

Of all the things in the world I don’t want, I don’t want to die like that, not shopping for clothing, not so excited over a bargain in the Leica shop that I have a fatal heart attack. We never know when our time is up. As believers, we don’t get to choose.

I pray to be able to die with some kind of dignity.

  1. Why are there so many disturbed people living in America ?Surely, most parts of America receive plentiful sunlight, unlike in Scandinavia and GB, do they not??

  2. This is just my opinion – I think there are probably disturbed people sprinkled pretty equally around the globe, but in some countries, these people have guns. In other countries, it might be machetes. Anyone who carries a grudge and has a means to exact revenge, and has low impulse control is a candidate for destructive behavior. That’s just my opinion, Beautiful Liar, and I’m sticking to it.

  3. Very well said! This again is just a gut feeling I have but do you on some level also think sunshine, or the lack of it, in our lives does strange things to our minds, leading to aggression and bringing out the wild beast in some of us who aren’t able to cope as well ?
If such people with SAD ( Seasonal Affective Disorders) committ a crime, can you hold them culpable?

  5. BL, SAD in my part of the world, sunny Seattle, many people get in the deep dark winter months. The highest suicide rate in the world, I have heard, is in Sweden, where SAD is particularly felt – but it makes people depressed and suicidal, not homicidal, to my understanding.

And why, in sunny Kuwait, would we have all the knifings, if sunshine is a factor? Why the huge problems in Ruanda and Kenya? Look around, Beautiful Liar, that aggression is not buried all that deep in any of us!

I DO believe that the full moon creates some looniness, and that Spring brings out a very primitive flowing of the sap in all of us!

  6. Orangina – the latest is that the store had no security cameras, and there are no living witnesses, so police don’t even know where to start to figure out who did this.
