Books Behind the Counter

“Hey Mom, take a look” said Law and Order Man as we were about to walk out of the local Barnes and Noble. He was pointing to the selection of books by Chuck Palahniuk, all on shelves behind the counter.

I had noticed he has a collection of Chuck Palahniuk books, and I have read reviews by Kuwait bloggers, so I had asked him about the books, would he recommend them.

“You wouldn’t like them” he said. He knows me pretty well, and often recommends authors I might like. I do the same with him. If he says not to bother, I won’t bother.

“I asked the clerk why all the Chuck Palahniuk books were behind the counter, if people steal them,” my son went on, “and she wouldn’t exactly say that people walk off without paying for them, but she said that they are VERY popular books, so I assume that’s what she meant.”

  1. 🙂 Kuwait bloggers, I am the only one who reviews them!

  2. LOL, Purg, actually, there are also others who mentioned his books, blogger Z for one and another of the Kuwait-biker-bloggers who are also readers. Yes, you were the first and the one who reviewed most fully.

  3. After a quick Wikimedia look, I think I, too, will give Mr. Palahniuk a pass. While I read voraciously, life is much too short to slog through a book I’m not enjoying…and those wretched internal rules of mine won’t let me nonchalantly toss aside a book once I’ve started. Unlike HandyMan who reads the first 10 pages and if he isn’t “inspired” quits reading. How DOES he do that? lol

  5. DaisyMae – What is your daughter reading? BTW . . . I am back in the land of FULL supply Sephora, better known as HEAVEN.

Purg – it was enough to pique my interest when I saw the same books on my son’s bookshelves, but he, who makes great recommendations, said it would not be my cup of tea, so to speak. 😉
