NonStomped Roses

Thanks be to God for a sweet husband. He knows I love white roses, and that’s what he got me, with one mischievous red red rose stuck right in the middle. 😉

There is a shop in Kuwait we love, Au Nom de la Rose, where the flowers are always fresh, and beautiful, and put together naturally. AdventureMan says on Valentine’s Day, they were SO busy, but that the man in front of him, holding a bouquet, was trying to get a discount.

(whine! whine! whine!) said the man in front of him.

“Sir! This is not Mubarakiyya! This is fixed price! And you have already paid, why are you asking now for a discount?” said the polite but very very busy and professional manager. LOL!

We asked the manager how she liked working in Kuwait. (I am telling you this because her response was so totally unexpected, and delightful.)

“I LOVE working here!” she said. “The woman I work for, who owns the store, is wonderful to work for. I love my job, and she trusts me.”

She also gets paid a decent wage, and she gets paid on time. This is one of the happiest women I have met in Kuwait.

Au Nom de la Rose has more than one location, but the one we go to is next to Chocolat, next to Tumbleweeds, in that stretch of stores and restaurants near Bida’a circle. Expensive. Worth every fils. 🙂

No sunrise today. I can’t even see the sea. Whatever this is socking us in today – fog? sand? it is not orange, but it is THICK.

  1. Heheheheeee

I love white roses too!!!! My most favourite!!! They just scream purity and innocence… i think red ones are a bit bloody and tacky… that’s only me of course…

I got a similar boquet from A Nom de la rose tooo 😉

But mine had one red, one white, one pink, then in the middle there was this little red heart shaped cookie from chocolate bar snuggled between the roses (butootee put it there so he would know that i did take care of the roses and put them in a jar)

They have the BEST roses in Q8… hands down!

and Bu tootee did get a discount… but not because he asked, because he did not have enough change… either a 20 KD note or some change, so they took the change 😀 that was the one in Shuwaikh near jean packer and living colors 😀

  3. Oh, Daddy’s Girl/Danderma, I totally love the vision of butootee charming them into a discount. And your flowers sound sweet and lovely. Aren’t you proud of him for going to the extra effort? 🙂 You are right, Au Nom de la Rose is the BEST. Have you ever seen the old movie with Sean Connery, The Name of the Rose?

Onlooker – they were totally unexpected, and totally welcomed! 🙂 The are still lovely, two days later, just as beautiful as when he brought them in. 🙂

  5. Hee hee hee – Danderma, one of my Kuwaiti friends, a man I really like told me he got flowers for his wife and I gave him a “WOOO HOOOOO” and he said “What? You think I am more Kuwaiti than I am!” and we both just laughed, because he did NOT grow up giving flowers to people on Valentine’s Day. 🙂 It’s such a simple, sweet thing, and what harm, to give someone you love a little extra pleasure?

The Name of the Rose is very old, it is a mystery by Umberto Ecco, set in a monastery. Sounds boring, but it was anything but. Italian Romanesque fortress/abbey (dramatic setting), ancient Christian religious dogmatic debates and a murder which Connery is brought in to solve, and a very very young Christian Slater (from ’80’s or 90’s Heathers fame) . . . a very dramatic and unforgettable movie.
