Real Time Sandstorm
I’m in my living room, currently the only air conditioned room in the house, the other area A/C is broken, and even in the living room, things are hotting up. Packing boxes, suddenly the light dims and I look outside.
Oh thank God! You might think that is a strange reaction, but when I am packing, any distraction will do. And the light is fantastic! Who knows when I will see another sandstorm rolling in like this? I shoot lots of shots, then scoot off the balcony because it is heading right for me.
I won’t show you what it looks like now. You know what orange looks like. It is totally a bright ochre orange outside. The shoreline is visible, but dimly. The street lights have come on and the smarter drivers have their headlights on. Just in time for drive-time home – be careful out there, Kuwait!

I was gardening at the time… I hit me at a bad time. At one point there was more sand in the air than in my ground π
AMD – I saw that article! I often read Shamael Al-Sharikh, and I thought this was one of her best columns. She is a rarity, a cojent and insightful political writer. Is this man running for legislature? I like what he says about the young Kuwaitis being patient, preparing themselves to take over, and working for change. Change doesn’t happen by talking, change happens by DOING, building consensus, clinging to ideals and ideas.
Daddy’s Girl – Yes, dear. It’s what expats do . . . I’ve been her longer than I have been in most places.
Q8Dutchie – Partly it’s a control issue – I like certain things packed together. This is move #30 – what I have learned is that nobody cares like me. Packers don’t care if the hardware for putting your bookcases together doesn’t show up, or maybe a shelf or two. They use too much paper and filler. Imagine – wrapping each piece of Tupperware and packing it separately, not stacked.
Secondly, it helps me cope with the sadness of leaving to have something to do, it helps me keep my focus. I will let them pack the furniture and things I don’t care to pack. π Are you packed out?

We are packed out. Have a small shipment leaving this week. So just a few more things to do. We had such great packers I can’t complain. We have had our share of issues in 8 moves make that now 9!
