  3. The answer to question 3 is not quite right. I eat, drink, hand objects and take objects ALL THE TIME with my left hand in Iran and not once was anyone offended.

Maybe this social/business etiquette rule was true 100 years ago, but not any more.

A while back i came across a Guidebook on Iran written by the US Military about 60 yrs ago…let’s just say some of the ‘advice’ written had me rolling on the floor laughing (literally):D

  5. Noushin – I have advice for people coming to Qatar given out by the AmEmb in 2003. It says there is only one rule of the road – give way to anyone bigger than you are, bigger = right of way, LOL! I am so glad things have changed. My husband told me never to get behind a truck with cement blocks – they weren’t even tied down. Things have changed and for the better. We are still told never to offer anything with your left hand, nor to eat with your left hand, that it is considered unclean. And never to show the bottoms of our shoes . . .

    Mentabolism – good guessing! 🙂
