The Royal Tandoor in Doha
More than a year ago, some friends took us to a restaurant in Doha that we loved. We looked and looked, and we never could find it.
Then, when we were taking our friends to eat at the Majliss, AdventureMan stopped and said “Isn’t that the restaurant we were looking for? I think it is!” and it was almost right across the street from the Majlis.
We decided to give it another try as soon as possible – and oh, was it worth it.
Every now and then, you have a meal where every single thing you order is exactly right. This was one of those meals.
We had the sizzling grilled shrimp, a hammour dish, a vegetable jalfrezi, and a veg biriyani, with a side of raita. Every dish was delicious.

They have little booths with curtains across them, if you get there early enough, or you can sit out in the open area. Service is courteous and prompt. We can hardly wait to go again – it is really good.

Hey, wassup, Seattle mama? First, the Majlis now the Royal Tandoor. Looks like someone’s not to be seen in their kitchen these days 🙂
Someday you must try the Fish Tandoor, preferably, the zubeidi (pomfret) tandoor. It will have you asking for more, of that I can be sure 🙂
LOL, BL, I think that second photo may have been Hammour from the Tandoor; I will have to pay more attention next time. I don’t think this restaurant had the zubeidi on the menu. Hmmm. Maybe I will have to try it myself, in my own kitchen . . . or maybe AdventureMan will do it!
Yeh, I do cook, and then there are days when I just don’t want to. And there are days when I do cook, and AdventureMan says “can we have that tomorrow? Tonight I really want (Italian Job) (Chilis) (Royal Tandoor) (Majlis) etc.
NICE!
Just a quick note to also recommend to you – Fish Sizzler.
intlxpatr, why do you torture us, why? 😦
Thanks, Khalid.
I’ll have to try it, Sizzler!
3baid? ? ? We only ordered healthy stuff! What is the problem? It’s not like there is no Tandoori food in Kuwait! 🙂
Nice! if you like Biriyani you should try a Hyderabadi Biriyani or Malabari Biriyani or if you like something lighter try a Kashmiri Pulao (some call it Pilaf) 🙂
We’ll have to try it ALL! We adore biriyani, Mathai! Which is your favorite?
I’m from the Malabar region hence I’m partial to the Malabari version, but the Hyderabadi is excellent too! They marinate the chicken/mutton pieces in a spiced yogurt mixture for many hours. Thats what makes it sooooo succulent and juicy! 😛
I will try to find a Malabar restaurant in Doha. I am sure there is one. 🙂 I know there is a Hyderabad restaurant I haven’t tried yet, and did you notice in the Chicken Enchilada recipe I copped the soaking in yoghurt technique for my Mexican dish? I love love love that technique for succulent and juicy!
yeah I saw that one! 🙂
Hope you have fun trying out all the Biriyanis! 🙂
