Alhamdallah for the New Year!

A fresh new year, and a fresh new start! I’m not going to make any resolutions, other than to try to get more exercise, and to be more faithful in my spiritual life.

Meanwhile, this is the view my sweet niece has from her room with her new baby:

They will have a perfect view of the fireworks that will go off at midnight to celebrate the coming of the New Year.

  2. ya khalti I’m not sure that _anyone_ in our family made it to midnight last night – the events of the past two weeks, happy and sad, have been draining. but if anyone deserved to be up to welcome the new year, it would be my sister and her new family :-).

I am on my plane, leaving seattle for the country’s flyover zone :-). my cousin and his beautiful seaside bride met me in the check-in for hugs and goodbyes – the perfect ending to a lovely trip, steeped in family. happy happy new year – I can’t wait to see what 2007 brings.

  3. Oh! I am so happy to hear you all had another chance to say goodbye again and maybe grab a cup of qawa or chai! One of the best things about our family is the cousin thing.

Happy Happy New Year to you, too, habibti, and safe travels, to your conference, back to Beirut, and – insh’allah – soon to Kuwait!

  6. DR! I am so happy to see you! Happy New Year to you, habibti, and isn’t there supposed to be a New Year’s surprise for us?? I’m waiting . . . .;-)

MacaholicQ8 – I know many bloggers join me in wishing you a much better year to come than the year you just had. Creating your new nest is a great start, but we are also praying for a better working environment 4U in the New Year!

  7. Skunk, this time not only did I rescue you from spam, but you showed up late late late! I can’t figure out what is going wrong, but didn’t you used to be SKNK?

Hmmmm, I think my niece’s baby is like a nephew-once-removed; honestly, here is where the Arabs have it over all the other languages with all the relationships so clearly spelled out. I think he will be Diamond Chip, Chip for short. He is adorable – a real “sparkler”.

  8. mmmmm khalti, Chip? our blogs may have to agree to disagree on what to call him. little sparkler? baguette? solitaire?

he is your great-nephew, and you are his great-aunt. your son and he are first cousins once removed, and your grandson and he will be second cousins. (this is my legacy from Grandpa: the proper terms for family relationships, and the importance of genealogy!)

  9. Little Diamond – I sure hope not “solitair!”

Whew! Thanks for all the relational words. So he is my great-nephew. I think YOU are a GREAT aunt 😉
