Kuwait Youth Arrested for hitting 305 km/hr

Today’s Arab Times:

As many as 117 people were caught over speeding in just three hours on the King Fahd Motorway.

Traffic men fixed a radar on the motorway near Al Nuwaiseeb area from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and issued citations to 117 violators.

A Kuwait youth has been detained for driving at a speed of 305 km/hr in his Porsche car. He was referred to the Traffic Court and his car has been impounded.

Traffic men have started a campaign against reckless drivers and riders performing stunts on their motorbikes.

My comment: Have you been following EniGma’s blog, where she proposes what she will do as the new Minister – a different Minister each day? I think someone was listening to her when she wrote her post on Ministry of Interior For a Day.

I am also hearing strains of the old Beachboys song about “fun fun fun now that daddy took the T-bird away” only substituting Porsche for T-bird. I think a huge fine would be appropriate, 30 hours of supervised remedial driving lessons and three months working with accident victims in one of the local hospitals. That’s the rehabilitation/punishment I would give.

  3. EniGma – I read it, didn’t I? I think what you are doing is very very clever, and thoughtful, and actually positive. We all have to work together to help our countries, and you are coming up with things that CAN be accomplished.

  4. Outlaw – Yeh, I want you to live to see your children and grandchildren. If it means missing out on the thrill of tempting death in your hot car, then yes, I want you to miss out on all that “fun”. I’d rather you died laughing!

  6. ‘Bu Ameerah, that is the saddest equation I have ever seen.

I have a seriously bad feeling that if you compared the percentages of Kuwaiti /non Kuwait population, and then compared it to Kuwaiti/ Non-Kuwaiti traffic fatalities, you would see a horrifying statistic. Horrifying. Heartbreaking.

  7. “…that is the saddest equation I have ever seen.”

Yeah, yeah….i know that i suck at math. However, that’s not the point. i merely wanted to emphasize the fact that “youth” and “speed” don’t always mix — despite what Hollywood movies make us think. “The Fact and The Furious” — whatever!

More like….The Fast and The DEAD.

  8. No! No, Abu Ameerah, you got the math exactly right! That is what makes me so very very sad.

I’m a mother. My heart goes out to the heartbroken mother’s of these young men who die needlessly, or are physically damaged for the rest of their lives.

One time, I saw a car STUCK in a palm tree about four feet off the ground. How fast do you have to be going for that to happen?
