“Woh ist der bahnhof?” Revisited

Today, in the co-op I was looking for toilet paper, because we were perilously low. In the diaper section I found three women workers (when did women start working in the co-ops? I really like it!) who wanted to help.

“Ana ashuf . . .” I started off (I am looking for) but I don’t know how to say toilet paper, so I said “toilet paper”.

Blank faces. I’m trying to think of a way to say it in Arabic, roundabout, but all I can say, weakly is to repeat “toilet paper”.

Blank faces. But kind, patient, so I say it again.

The light goes on.

“Ah! Toi LET paper!” she says, with the accent on the second syllable.

“Yes!” I say, as she leads me there, continuing to correct me: “Toi LET paper, Toi LET paper.”

  2. I love the perilously low part …

Were those women working in the Co-Ops? I don’t think so. Most likely they were diaper or sanitary pad salesladies…

  3. Hmmm, you could be right, Jewaira. There were four women – one encouraging people to buy a particular brand of milk, and three back in the diaper area . . . but they may have all been manufacturer’s reps or something. Most of the time the co-ops are SO full of male workers that it is discomforting. I like the women workers there, too.

  4. MaXie, welcome! I like the title of your latest entry: Learn the Rules and Break Them. We used to say: Take the spank. Same thing.

  5. LOL! Next time just say KLEENIX mal HAMAM. 😀

And as for the women, I don’t think they work at the Co-op. I think they’re outsourced promoters and usualy they market specific products. I guess they just saw you in peril and wanted to help out 🙂

  6. Thank you, 1001, for giving me those important words!

In peril is right! I had so much to do, but I knew we didn’t want to be without Kleenix mal Hamam!
