I have a feeling I already know the answer to this question, but here goes. In WordPress, you can see when people have referenced your articles in their blogs. Recently, I’ve been getting lots and lots of references. The websites that are quoting me are not bloggers like the Kuwait Blogs aggregated by Safat, but are blogs selling – in particular – Paxil, which I don’t even know what it is, but also some gambling sites, sites my content really has nothing to do with. Sites I am not sure I even want to be associated with.
Some actually give me credit, as Intlxpatr or Here, There and Everywhere, but some – even while they give a trackback to my blog – say something like MillionDollarWinner today posted on Christmas in Seattle . . . and there is one of MY blog entries.
So my question – is there anything I can do to stop this? (I think the answer is probably “no”) I have left comments on a couple saying they shouldn’t be stealing my content, but then nothing changes, and they have a valid blog address for me . . . What is my best course of action/inaction?
Do any of you have this same problem, people stealing your content?

You can probably disable the ‘trackback’ options, but even your creditors won’t be able to link you!

also i have come across some blogs that disable the saving of images, you know the right click save as thing,… but i’m not sure how to do that.
pretty important since you put up your own pics.
thing is if they really want to steal your pic there are ways around it, but it would discourage most of em.
as far as the text goes, i have no idea other than sueing everyone 😛
Yeah, those are trackback spammers. Just mark them as spam, then delete.
I was just going to say what 3baid said, that’s spam, not real trackbacks, so just delete 😀
The guys who are using my content don’t show up as spammers; they only show up as links – people who have linked to me. I don’t know that there is any way to delete someone who has initiated a link. It’s like if I mentioned you in a post – could you stop me?
It’s impossible to delete posts that have already been initiated, but you can avoid further spams.
Leaving a comment on their blog is the best thing to do; and you’ve already did it(that would send the message to sensible readers visiting their blog)
Good idea, Joel. It couldn’t hurt, could it? They already know where to find me, and it might be embarrassing (assuming they have any capacity for shame at all) to have me commenting about STEALING my content without giving me credit.
I had them for a while too.
They used the trackback thing, I guess.
If you disable that, they shouldn’t be able to use it in future posts.
Then you can add their webadress in the spam catcher for future as well.
To get rid of them on the posts already tracked, set the post back to private for a few hours, that should kick them off.

I don’t want to disable trackback, because I like it that some bloggers track back to me – especially readers, or people interested in life in Kuwait, that sort of thing. I object to the commercial sites using my stuff, especially if I don’t care for their product and especially when they don’t give me credit.
