Kuwait View

This is for people who lived in Kuwait a long time ago – like pre-invasion – and still think of Kuwait as a sleepy, spacious little city. It is taken from near the Marina Mall, a mall that has an overpass across Gulf road to take shoppers to the Marina Crescent, a collection of many restaurants with indoor and outdoor seating.

This is a view looking north, toward Kuwait City:

  5. I’ve been to Souq Sharq recently and it wasn’t empty but it was filled with wrong type of people. But I still think that Souq Sharq’s marina and the cafes overlooking it as the best marina in town.

  7. Yea, I can’t even recognize for sure where this photo was taken. It’s all changed since 1994…

  8. Amu, a lot of these newer high rises are pretty air tight.

Ansam – I don’t really much like malls, but it IS sad, so many malls, so few people.

??? – I agree with you about the beautiful marina – I love all the old fishing boats.

error – Yep! Beautiful place, hmmm?

Global Gal – that’s why I took the photos. I was thinking of you, and of a friend in Zambia who lived here as a little girl.

  9. We’re crawling up to civilization and it’s taking us ages.

@ amu: Man that’s not dust, that’s a special kind of fog. ;P

  11. Mac – Q8 has some fabulous residences. Apartments here are the size of houses in the US. Houses – holy smokes! Very few houses in the US are so solidly built or so HUGE.

Chirp – I don’t like to go on the weekends when I am guessing all the people go. When I go, they seem pretty empty!

  12. I have always thought Kuwait in the pre-invasion years exuded more class and style than it does now. For sure, back then Kuwait was light years ahead of its other Mideastern neighbors but that was then and this is now.
In a certain sense, and I mean you no disrespect Salem Mubarak Street in particular, has lost its European charm becoming more Bronx less Knightsbridge.
