Calendar Cat?

I’ve been talking to the Qatteri Cat, asking him if he would like to be a calendar cat for the Animal Welfare League. So far, not much response . . . he’s too busy sleeping.

Maybe your cats or dogs will be more cooperative. You have until May 31 to submit your photo! It’s a worthy cause.

  1. Mh, besides my own gorgeous canine friends I still have a few pictures that I actually took over there.
Thanks for the heads up – I’ll give it a shot 😀

  2. Oh, I just read – images become property of AFL.
    What is that all about?
In legal terms that would mean I loose all rights and can’t sell it no more?!
    They should rephrase that 😦

  3. Losing all rights to your winning photo is pretty standard for photography contests, isn’t it, Nicole? I compete now and then, and have always had to sign away rights to entries. They use them wherever they wish.

Surely you have a photo of your darlings you would donate to such a good cause – maybe of them picking up trash with you on the beach?

  4. I always refrain from giving away all the rights.
I’m sorry, but why should I?
If they want to use it for the calendar fine, but why would they need all the rights?
    In other contests as well.
Use it for a print, book, exhibition, but all rights?
    Nope.
Those are the ones I stay away from.

In this case they could phrase it, that they get the right to use the image in any form.
But it becoming their property is going a bit far.

    Just my opinion.

  5. You make a good point, especially as a professional photographer, Nicole.

  6. I’m far from professional, but yes, I make a little bit of money.

Anyhow – I just don’t see their point.
Legally it’s good enough to say that they will use the pictures in the calendar.
    End of story.

Yes, I would have a gazillion pictures they could use and which I never ever will miss.
I guess I’m just nitpicking here, sigh….. narrowminded German sometimes 😉

  7. What a pity, Nicole, that they would miss out on an entry from YOU!

  9. No sweetie, I was being straight up. When I saw the photo of your dog with his head in the water, I thought it would be a perfect foto for their calendar.

  10. Oh – thanks *deep shade of red on face*
    …..

I was mainly thinking of this one:
    http://www.zazzle.com/Rainmountain/product/239450844701560757
But I can’t do it with giving them the rights for the shot. Because legally I couldn’t sell it no more.
They should rephrase it in a Creative Common license (or something like that, would have to look up the right term – there are licenses where they can use someone else’s pictures for commercial & creative things)

But I will print out some and make cards for them to sell.
Aisha or one of the drivers will pick up our doggies tomorrow for a three day fun tour at the Shelter and I wanted to give them cards to sell since a while.

  11. That IS adorable, Nicole, but the one of your dog with his face in the water was so quintessentially DOGGY, I almost ran out and adopted a dog! Do German tax laws allow you to donate a photo and write off the value in taxes? I would love for you to submit the dog photo – it is truly memorable!

  12. LOL, I have nothing to do with German taxes 😉
    So I truly don’t know.

And it’s not about the value or the Photo, it’s just that that clause is totally unnecessary – especially for AFL and this event.

    :S
