Second Day Sandstorm

Here is what the sun looks like early this morning; you can’t even see the sea, even though you are looking right at it:

Here is what the city looks like early this morning; visibility maybe 100 m?

And after only one day and a half, here is what my cleaning lady faces today:

(That’s my footprint in the dust, if you were wondering) In just one day, in a seemingly air-tight living space, dust coats everything. I am leaving footprints as if in a house abandoned for a year or so!

I actually don’t mind driving in the dust storms, as long as there is some visibility. When it comes in so thick you can’t see 10 meters in front of the car, I have to pull over. Even with the car sealed, and the A/C on, filtering the air, my nose gets stuffy and I feel like I am having trouble breathing. Maybe today is a good day to stay home. 😦

  1. yikes! Beirut sometimes gets the spillover from Gulf sandstorms – thick air, weird orange skies – but its NOTHING like what you describe.

I wish you a delightfully cozy day at home, curled up with a good read 🙂

  2. Be careful – Arab times this morning says 500 accidents in 48 hours. Even though you know how to drive doesn’t mean others do 😦
And hey, at least YOU have a cleaning lady 😉

  3. Little Diamond, do you remember our first sandstorm? Driving along the corniche in Qatar? That was worse than this. The sand here is much finer, dust really. But it is really hanging in there. The sky is white – I don’t know if it is clouds or dust-storm. Did you know Seattle is in the middle of a snow storm???

Nicole, no kidding! I had no idea. Once again, it just doesn’t seem so bad where I am.

  4. Hmmm, Kuwait needs some rain so that dust can descend to the ground. Oh well, there’s always Showtime and novels to kill some time while hanging indoors 😛
