Traffic Update
From today’s Arab Times:
Over 200 citations issued: During a crackdown on traffic law violators on the King Fahd Expressway police patrols have issued 202 citations to reckless motorists. The citations also include motorists caught talking on cell phones without using the ‘hands free’ set and not wearing seat belts, reports Arrouiah daily quoting security sources. The same sources said two motorists have been referred to the Traffic Court and their vehicles have been impounded. They were caught speeding.
Comment . . . only two motorists speeding? 😉

that should have read two motorists caught speeding without any wasta had their cars impounded.
*Sigh* So cynical . . . and, sadly, I agree with your assessment. I also notice that it was “motorists” and not “citizens” which is a significant indicator.
It was strange today actually. At 8:10 AM, the traffic light for Massila road with 6th Ring Road was completely jammed from the start. Never seen that before.
They are citing people who speed, don’t wear seat belts, and don’t use their hands-free when talking on the phone. However, are they citing those who drive BELOW the (lower) speed limit? Are they citing those who make traffic violations;like making a second line at a U-turn?
I’m no saint, but some of these actions seriously decrease the driving experience of everyone by a lot! Maybe.. I’m asking too much.
Bashar, No kidding? Jammed at 0810? It must be a school exam thing, don’t you think? Or a diversion from somewhere? What a nightmare!
N. No, you are not asking too much. Some of the POS cars on the road are a danger in themselves, and no wonder they spontaneously catch on fire sometimes. But the police have to start somewhere. God willing, things are changing, but lasting change is almost always incremental. Behavior changes take time. Thank YOU for setting a good example. 😛
I believe it is working. My husband and I witnessed 2 young men racing on the Fahaheel Expressway, and their subsequent stop by the police. We rolled our windows down to clap and applaud the police! Thanks be to God! I don’t care where they start, I am just so happy they have.
