Angelo – yep! And in Doha, the first dust storm I ever experienced, sand was everywhere. My niece and I were on the Corniche, and there were huge sand drifts, cars skidding everywhere, big grains of sand, not like the dust in Kuwait.

Ha ha!! That’s too funny. I read first “the crane” and thought ~ that’s Japan’s national bird! Then I saw the photos ~ very clever!

Thanks, Suexi. In Saudi Arabia, we said the national bird was the flimsy plastic bag. There were everywhere, roosting in hedges by the thousands, flying over the highways, stuck in the ditches and greenery. It is a thoroughly disgusting sight; Kuwait and Qatar have a system of keeping things picked up, and it makes a visible difference.
