Need Recommendation
I need your technical expertise.
A year ago, knowing I really like uploading photos to illustrate my posts, I went ahead and bought the biggest upgrade. It was stupid – I didn’t notice it was only for one year, I thought it was for the life of the blog, but that isn’t really relevant. It was stupid for another reason – no matter how much I upload, I have used ZERO capacity of the 28GB upgrade.
That upgrade is about to run out.
I have 6MB of stuff uploaded. Do I need another upgrade? If we (bloggers on WordPress) all have an automatic 3GB of upload space – it seems to me that 6MB is a whole lot less that 3GB. But maybe the 6MB is just the photos, and maybe the blog entries also add up?
My question: Do I need an upgrade?

wow i didnt know the upgrade was only for a year, that seems pointless and rather mean of them.
the blog entries shouldnt add up and even if they did text is only tiny.
you must have more than 6MB uploaded. with your pics it doesnt sound right. 600MB maybe?
you can always use something like flickr or an equivalent, and then just hot link the images instead of uploading to wp. i’m sure flickr wont charge for only a year which sounds ridiculous.
i dont think you need it really,… and by the time you do it will have gone up already to like 5gb or even 10 in the future.
When I go to the upload media thingie, it tells me I have used 6MB and I have 28 GB remaining. How many megabites in a gigabite? If we each get a basic 3GB, and if I really have only used 6MB, then . . . I should be OK, right? Even without buying any additional upgrades?
Why don’t you open a free flickr account and upload to your heart’s content without having to pay a dime?
btw, 1 GB = 1000 MB
I thought you were allowed only 200 photo’s on Flickr?
I think you’r safe, 3GB is an awful lot,
But if you want o be sure, why not ask WordPress? Or on the wordpress-forum?
WordPress bleh ! switch to blogger ..
The reason i say is , i like to get the comments on my mail, only a few wordpress blogs have opened that option and that makes wordpress blogs “blehg” .
Oh! google picasa is the answer … flickr bleh !
nope i would say you wouldn’t need an upgrade. Just like skunkwrkz mentioned, you can hotlonk from any photo upload site like flickr or http://photobucket.com/.
Or what i do is reduce the size of a pic before i upload. I currently have used only 650.5 kB.
oh and with a free account at flickr you can upload 100MB every month (I guess that’s about 20-25 pictures). Your limit sets to zero at the beginning of each month.
And with a pro account at flickr (US$24.95 a year) you have unlimited uploads.
@ grey: seriously?…i get comments to my mail all the time from wordpress…maybe stm it goes to you spam box
ok so i checked the sizes of your last couple of pictures,.. and well done really small memory wise so yeah maybe 6mb is right. since you already shrink your pictures quite nicely both size and memory wise i think you definately dont need an upgrade.
hotlinking thru flickr or picassa is a good option cos then you dont have to shrink your pics and some people can enjoy them in a bigger format.
3baid – Sigh. Another account, another password, another system to learn and try to keep track of. . . I am trying harder to simplify my life. I might go with Picasa, seeing as I have a Google connection. 🙂
Aafke, good point, I asked WordPress. My guess is that they think I am pretty stupid, buying a huge upgrade last year that I didn’t need.
Grey – I hear SO many complaints about Blogger. At least I know this system
Darya – Thank you! I do reduce photos, so the 6MB is probably about right.
Thank you, Skunk. That was my instinct, but I don’t want the deadline to pass and discover I’ve been locked or blocked or something for exceeding my allotted capability.
I use photobucket.com, it is free simple to use and I never had any upload limits.
You don’t need a space upgrade. you are using only 0.002 of your FREE space (the 3GB).
Thanks Don Veto. 🙂
Aha! Yousef! Clear language I can understand. Woooo HOOOOOO! Thank you!
Why don’t you buy the domain mapping upgrade and buy your own domain through wordpress.com? imagine having intlxpatr.com as your domain and whenever someone types intlxpatr.wordpress.com it redirect them automatically to your own domain. Not just you’re going to have your own domain, but you then can have emails like example@intlxpatr.com!
I have no idea why this upgrade seem like a no brainer to me.
