Anonymouse

While visiting another blog, I learned a new trick. I know most you you already know how to do these things, but some of us who were not born into these new technologies take a little longer to learn all the tricks you take for granted.

From my blogging friend in Damascus, Souvenirs and Scars, I learned about Anonymouse where you can go to access websites that may be blocked in the country where you live. Pretty cool, huh? I am betting that there are others I don’t know about – how on earth do any of these countries think they can block the free flow of information? That bell can’t be un-rung!

  2. These websites themselves are usually blocked in Kuwait, now that you have mentioned it, it will eventually come up on the list, so yeah, you just ruined the site 😛

The downside of these sites is that they wont run all the scripts properly such as Java or Applets, for some sites.

  3. Yeh, Neoark25, you tech-savvy people know all these things. It’s harder for people like me.

You are right, Patrick, I probably just ruined it for Kuwait, except that I think this blog is too trivial for anybody to be watching for things like that. 🙂 Actually, the point is that the free flow of information is like a flood – you can’t hold it back. There will always be a work-around.

  5. Thanks!

I’ve heard of things like this existing, but never knew any details about where to find them.

  6. whoa !! keep it down.. we don’t want ‘big bro’ getting info on new proxies do we ? 😉
One thing though, using anonymous proxy sites is not considered safe as your user IDs and passwords can be seen by listeners. The ideal thing would be to use a VPN service. 🙂

  7. Seeing that your bubbles have already been burst I can only provide you with yet a better solution… AnchorFree HotSpot Shield. It’s better because, contrary to what Patrick referred about Anonymouse.org, this application enables cookies and allows scripts to run fine making all sites function properly. Give it a try and hope you like it.

btw, I still can’t capture the joy of the vacation, don’t know if I ever will. Meaning I am not sure if I will be able to join your photo challenge. :/

  9. Access Denied
Your request was denied because of its content categorization: “Proxy Avoidance”

    and there goes my proxy…

  11. Mac – NOT vacation – HOLIDAY! You qualify. Show me something about your holiday, show me something meaningful.

  12. Holiday… my bad. 😛

I will try my best to find something. Is it ok if I contribute with last Eid’s pictures? (Eid Al-fitr, not the recent one.)

  13. Stopping by here while researching something unrelated, but I have something to add: Anonymouse is hardly the only solution out there. Another is Circumventor, which can be found at http://www.stupidcensorship.com . And then there is the famous Tor, which has so far stymied every government attempt at shutting it down or blocking it, at http://www.torproject.org .
