More Jewels from the Doha Museum of Islamic Art

More guests, and another trip to the Doha Museum of Islamic Art. I never tire of the place. Most of all, when I walk in, I just take a deep breath, breathe in the serenity.

It doesn’t hurt that there is also a wonderful, clean ladies room.

Every time we are there, we see something new and wonderful, something that was there, but we hadn’t noticed before. Here are some things I saw this time:

  1. Pic 3: I was trying to figure out the miniaturist’s name from the style he used….had no idea 😦 Do you remember if it was written on the info display?

last pic: wooow…love the mask…was it mention the region it is from?

  2. mmmm the manuscript page looks like something from the Shahname – gorgeous. that Timurid mask utterly captivated me when you took me to the museum – so beautiful, and must have been so terrifying when used in battle.

  3. Noushin, The name was not given. Some of the pieces have scant information. One of these days I will go alone, rent a headset, and take my time seeing every piece. AdventureMan and I have decided we want to study Iranian mythology; the pieces of work in the museum are so exquisite.

The mask is Central Asian, I believe. It is very intimidating. It is a war mask.

OOps, it’s Timurid, Little Diamond? How did you know that??? You are amazing.

  4. looool I have a picture of it – I was utterly captivated not only by the mask, but also by how it is displayed. I love the play of light and shadow. As for knowing that its Timurid, I must have gotten that from the museum tag – although I wish I could claim the expertise to go “Aha – Timurid!” just by looking πŸ™‚
