Qatar National Day Fireworks Spectacular

The problem is, even with the most amazing situation in the world, my wonderful little hand held Lumix can’t begin to capture the awe-inspiring grandeur of the 20 minute Qatar National Day Fireworks spectacular.

Another amazing thing – the fireworks started ON TIME. Suddenly the entire length of the Corniche erupted in white waterfalls. The fireworks were kept relatively close to the ground, and compact, but spread along a couple miles – it was an amazing feat, and the timing was to the second.

Caught in traffic, we decided to try something different. Like the Robert Frost poem, we took a road less travelled by, and it made all the difference. We lucked into a fantastic vantage point.

I have to add a special thanks here to AdventureMan. He knows how much I love fireworks, and I knew he has to work tomorrow, and still, he took me to see the fireworks. We were stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic until we took a chance, and by a miracle, found this fantastic, uncrowded vantage point. He love the fireworks as much as I did, but he did it for me, and my heart is full of gratitude. 🙂

    • 21 crew, 8 x 40foot shipping containers of equipment, 2 weeks setup,3 days of bloody rain, 17 pontoons over 3.2km, 1 island with 25 firing positions, kilometers of cable, countless hours of programming, 18 minutes of show, 4 days to pack it all back up and then fly home…great show, but exhausting! Very glad you enjoyed it!

  2. Hi
I was lucky enought to see the entire fireworks diplay from one of the best vantage points on the corniche….the top stands set up near the pearl a little ahead of the information booth. It gave me a clear view of the fireworks along the length of the entire corniche. I have to say I’ve never seen such a well-coordinated, beautifully done and not to mention long fireworks display….words fail to describe how breathtakingly spectacular they were. I took as many pics as I could as quickly as I could with my little lumix but I dont think even the best pics will do the show justice; or be able to explain to someone who wasnt there what exactly they missed.
Hat’s off to the organization committee and I really do hope they can repeat this next year… ill come prepared with a camera that’s more suited for panoramic scenes.

    • Hi
I didnt get there too early (7.30) parked the car 15 mins or so away from the corniche in an empty lot on shara al kharaba and walked the rest of the way…so we didnt get stuck in the worst of the traffic and getting out later was fairly easy. Will try to put up the best of the pics when I get the time.

  4. Thanks Sparkle, who shares my loving addiction to fireworks! The truth is – I didn’t catch them at the right moments, but there were so many right moments that I caught a few good ones. You canot imagine the depth and breadth of this show – it was close to the ground, and a couple kilometers long.

Holy smokes, gypsygirl, how did you get those seats? How early did you have to be there? The Corniche was bumper-to-bumper gridlock; how long did it take you to get home?

Ryan, I did a short video, but I don’t really understand how to insert a video in my posts – my own video. I uploaded it to YouTube but I’m sort of stuck right now.
