Victory at the Shrimp Basket
This is a moral victory. AdventureMan and I ate at the Shrimp Basket last week and we DID NOT eat fried food! We tried their non-fried platters, AdventureMan had the grilled fish and shrimp, and I had the blackened fish and shrimps. I took the photo before eating! (another victory, woooo HOOOO!)
Yes, I did dip my shrimp in the melted butter. I could not resist. This is one of the best seafood meals I have had in a long time, it was totally delicious.
On the table was this sign:
The oil has started coming ashore in Louisiana. It is thick and gooey, and it is sticking to the marshlands, clinging to delicate feathers on birds and suffocating wildlife. This is the beginning of a long, long, ugly process of trying to reclaim what nature never intended the oil to touch. It is devastating.

They look delicious! I’ve been keeping away from fried stuff too. I’ve got more love handles than my missus can handle 😀
Fried foods are – literally – killer, Mathai, but holy smokes, they do taste good! We are avoiding fried foods and soft drinks. Also trying to get more exercise 🙂

Impressive what the owners of the shop did to plan for the future supply and quality of their sea food and to keep their clients informed.
I think other fishermen and boat owners are going to suffer for a while because of the spill.
I guess foreign oil is not that all bad after all .
I think the reality is that a lot of the seafood comes from other areas. They have to find the cheapest source to stay in business, for example, the ‘catch of the day’, I am guessing, is often some frozen fish caught off the shores of Alaska – or maybe VietNam.
The oil is still gushing, and no one seems to know how to stop it. Two colonies, two entire colonies of pelicans were hit yesterday, and thousands of fish and foul are effected, not just hit by the oil but also their breeding colonies, their feeding grounds – all infested with thick, sticky goo. It is horrible.
