   No Eid holiday travel .we had the clan over for frist day of Eid meal , it was catered which we are grateful for, as it would have been impossible without that service .Many families use caterers for first day of Eid meal gatherings , as oppesed to going in gruop to restaurants like they do in lebanon , Jordan , or Syria (my heart go out to the syrians in this mess they find them selves in nowadays) .Though i think more and more families in Kuwait are slowly moving towards celeberating Eid meal in resaturants to avoid the hassel of preparing the house during the last days of Ramadan when they feel more tired because of lack of sleep and staying up late for worship and prayers .

7. Last night I made a dish called Tabak Rouhoo, a Damascus dish, and thought of the people in Syria, with great sadness. Even though we get ourselves into messes, sometimes the consequences are horrorific. I pray that God have mercy on them, and have a plan that all may once again live together in peace and equity.

   I can imagine having the Eid meal catered takes a huge load off everyone. Do some still bring a special dessert or dish caterers don’t make? I am thinking of a truly horrible pecan pie I ordered once in Qatar for Thanksgiving; they assured me it was the ‘real’ pecan pie. I can assure you it was NOT. Some things just have to be made at home 🙂 So aunties show up with a special dessert or side dish . . . does that happen in Kuwait?

8. Intlxpatr :

   Two things ;

   First: quicly i did a search on Tabak Rooho becouse i dont know much about syrian cooking beyand the usual dishes houms , fattah , shish barak and the like > i got the info on allrecipies.com

   second : no one brought anything , to which we were grateful too, because there were plenty of stuff left over sweets and all , also maybe some of the stuff the family may bring is all their experiments or worse some one else gave it to them and they will come and flog it on us, which i am not willing to eat and lie about it LOL . However ,and you know there is always an however , when women get together its most likely the case that they bring in the different dishes and share .

9. LOL @ “all their experiments:” I am guilty of that! Good that you had lots of leftovers; sometimes leftovers are even better when they have aged overnight. 🙂

   I use allrecipes.com all the time, so that must be where I got the recipe. It turned out really really good, except for the part where you are supposed to slide it out of the pan and keep it in layers. We weren’t sure if it was supposed to be a maklooba-like dish, upside down with the meat on top, or we were to slide it out top first. We ended up with a big bowl of slop, not layers, but it was delicious 🙂
