  1. Quite how you managed doing this is beyond me especially, when all about you must surely, try and pull you in the direction of microblogs. Do please carry on macro blogging! Just curious, do you also have a twitter handle we can follow? 🙂
Lately, I have succumbed to the evil worm of attention span deficit disorder brought on by addiction to social networking sites. Slowly but surely, my faculties have started to deteriorate. Reading, comprehension and writing have all taken their toll to the extent I can read no more than a page at a time without first reaching for my android or flipping TV channels or just plain squirming in my seat. I fear I mightn’t get my groove back EVER.

Btw, there’s a wonderful wonderful article on the Ethics of Attention in the Hedgehog Review. I would strongly recommend you read it. Well, alright, I have been cheating just a little-reading on the side but my prime passion in life today remains social networking. When I stop to think about someone I love and care deeply for, that loved reading but can’t because their vision is failing them I realise what a waste all these technology enabled avenues of passing time truly are. I am horrified at the thought of someday being able to see less, hear less and understand even less.

  2. You totally took me in on this one, BL, until I saw the url and email address 🙂 As for vision failing, for the most part most of my older friends are seeing fine, thanks to cataract surgery, which has become a casual event with life-changing benefits.

I don’t tweet. I find most tweets lightweight, and I get bored. I find myself being drawn in the opposite direction from you; I find myself hungering for the challenge of tackling heavier stuff, and have learned the joys of Kindle making the print as big as I need it and giving me the definition of a word or the location of an island exactly when I need it. I am reading The Iron King, by Maurice Druon, and it mentioned the Isle aux Juifs in Paris, which I had never heard of, but by quickly going to Google I found an image which placed it as a small island just off the tip of the Isle de la Cite’. For me, this is immensely satisfying.

As for FaceBook, yes, I am on it, mostly to keep up with family and friends, but it is all very superficial, so I need a good phone call now and then to keep current in a real and connected way. 🙂

Truly, you sound bored and a little at loose ends. Between volunteer work (at a job I LOVE ) :-), church, hobby, exercise and family commitments I don’t have time to be bored. I know you are a talented man; I also know that the right volunteer job is out there waiting for you . . . I am guessing you NEED to get back in the game, in a limited commitment sort of way. 🙂
