Higher IQ Linked to being Vegetarian
I found this among BBC’s Most E-mailed stories and I can see why. Holy smokes! Adventure Man and I have gone greatly, but not totally, meatless. Sometimes, we just can’t resist. About once every three months or so, we just have to have a steak or a hamburger, but mostly, we try to eat lower on the food chain. Good thing I LOVE salmon. And those hammour kofte they make at the Sultan Center on the weekends. Ummmm . . . . hmmmmm. Can you eat fish and be vegetarian?
Intelligent children are more likely to become vegetarians later in life, a study says.
A Southampton University team found those who were vegetarian by 30 had recorded five IQ points more on average at the age of 10.
Researchers said it could explain why people with higher IQ were healthier as a vegetarian diet was linked to lower heart disease and obesity rates.

posted something similar to these a while back 🙂
http://fonzation.com/blog/2006/12/16/vegetarian-high-iq/
but i would never be a vegeterian, nothing kills those muchies like a juicu burger 🙂
I’m already more or less a veggie. I don’t like meat (except for burgers and hot dogs). I mostly each chicken and fish but not as often as a carnivore would
hehe somewhat a veggie? KJ…. u r NOT a veggie…. u eat meat and chicken… thats it.
Lies!
I have a high IQ and I LOVE meat and chicken. Stupid researcher always coming up with ridiculous theories 😛
Looks like some people thought that if they become vegetarians they will have a higher I.Q. not that people with a higher than average I.Q. are the ones who mostly become vegetarian.
However, I do applaud you and Adventure Man! 😀 Good going, do some I.Q. tests and see if the results are within the range. I’m not 30 yet, I’m not thinking about being a vegetarian but I am considering living healthier by reducing meat and eating more vegetables! I have time :p
Fonz – Great minds travelling in the same direction!
KJ – LLOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL!!! *dying laughing!* Sweetie, you may be eating less meat (except for hamburgers and hot dogs) (!!!!!) and still eating chicken and fish and that takes you right out of the almost vegetarian category. But you sound like you have a pretty high IQ in spite of it . . . wonder what it would be if you went full veg?
Kinan – And you, too, are the exception!
N. – One thing we find is that meat really packs a lot of calories. Eating lower on the food pyramid, mostly grains and veggies, helps keep some of the lbs. off! It gets more important with time. Healthy eating starts now!
well, i dont know how reliable this study is,, i mean having a high IQ may mean a person has the means to be smart but does it garantee that the person will make smart decisions ? and the average 5 point difference, i really dont think its that significant of a number… ? just my thoughts on the subject..
hmmmm.. iiinteresting :p
i like veggies.. to an extent lol
… but i can’t live without my chicken! *hides her face in shame*
Good thoughts, Abdulaziz. And they make the point that it is unclear whether smarter people choose to go vegetarian, or going vegetarian raises your IQ. And you are right, 5 points is not such a great difference.
Swair – what about little lambies?
amazing topic, thanks for sharing it with us 😉
Welcome, Very.Q8ya, glad you liked it.
I personally prefer to be a vegeterian. because I suffered from depression during my academic study with canivore living style. Change from carnivore to herbivore is bit difficult at first: always hungered for protein; addictive feeling etc. but just for a few days, I have just been transformed. What could veggie do to me? well, I am personally less depressed, feeling better, having less whelks ( I am 23 by the way). But I also feel kind of lossing agility but kind of increase endurance (I am not saying I am becoming a cattle anyway) and also kind of less nervous and increase intelligent I suppose.
I recommand to give it a try if you feel guilty about animal killing or meat sucks or depression or easily getting nervous or have health problem relate to coronary artery, atherosclerosis, hypertension etc. I also recommand to have some brief research on veggie food list that can replace meat for nutrients.
Revodragon – several members of my family are vegetarian, and are thriving. They are careful to use complementary proteins, etc. They really look GOOD, lean and fit and their skin is good, hair is shiny.
I fall more into the Fonz category – I try to focus mostly on vegetables and grains, but every now and then, oh, I have to have a little filet!
the food pyramid always calls for low fat high fiber diets, that is why i always stick to it
