And Everything Went Wrong

Five minutes ago there was another accident outside my house. I was on the phone before I even spotted it, calling 777.

The guy who hit the other guy is backing up and . . .DRIVING AWAY! There must be 20 witnesses with cell phones looking dumbfounded as he is driving away, but not so dumbfounded they are not taking photos of the car with their cell phones and writing down the license number. I am sorry, whoever was the hitter was dumber than dumb.

777 rings and rings. Some man finally answers, sounding annoyed, and when I ask for the traffic police, he says something – it didn’t sound very nice – and hung up on me. (The women must have gone home. They are always polite, efficient, and competant.) When I dialed the local police directly (yep, we’ve talked before so I DO have their number) NO ONE answers.

It is time for prayer, but . . . 20 minutes later, the hit car is still causing all kinds of traffic problems and no one can do anything because no police are coming.

Update – two minutes later, there are cops, there is an ambulance, and there are 20 people showing photos to the police of the numbskull who hit and run. Don’t you just love technology?

  2. I don’t call often enough for them to remember me, besides, I am just an anonymous caller, they have to deal with the tragedy and the victims. I am just laughing at the idiot – who probably lives in this neighborhood – who RAN with all those cell phones taking his picture.

  5. My wife and I will be joining you in Kuwait in August for 2 years. Your blog has been providing great insights into not only Kuwait but also some of the holiday destinations (Bangkok) that we were planning to visit while there.

  6. It just might a kid without a license who got freaked out, panicked, and didn’t know what to do aside from get out of the situation. With that many cameras though chances are he will get caught. I hope to God nobody got hurt? Did they pull people into the ambulance?

  7. CC – you will feel very much at home; there are a lot of Canadians living here. Have you checked out Jazeera Airlines?

7zaya – I think it was someone who freaked out. I didn’t see anyone hurt, but it looked like there was blood. The car that was hit was hurt very badly. I was fixing dinner, so I didn’t see if anyone was taken in the ambulance. I only watched to make sure the police got there.

  8. I had a senile aunt that used to do two things, watch the sun every morning and watch the cars down the street. Now she has been missing for three years.Out there somewhere chasing cars i presume.Strange what happens to women when they get old.

  9. Talisman – LLLOOOLLLL. As long as you keep it clean, I let it stand. I don’t watch the traffic; I hear the crashes. But the sunrise – I guess when you start going senile, like those of us over 30, you start to treasure sunrises more. It comes with maturity.

You write well, when are you going to get your own blog instead of lurking around making nasty comments on other people’s blogs?

  12. There was a time when I called 777 almost twice-three times a week. whenever I was followed, when people were stuck in an elevator(a few times) and anytime I was double parked.

I wonder if the calls are recorded ’cause I’ve had some interesting ones. They’re slow; so if its a real emergency act on your own. But if you have plenty of time on your hands, call them.

I’ve also called 911 a few times in the U.S.

  13. Big Pearls – And my wish for you is that you never find yourself in a situation where you must!

GE&B – You call them WAY more than me! I don’t live such an exciting life as you do! Most of the time when I call 777, a woman answers and I get good service. I was shocked at this man who hung up!

  14. Amu, actually, yes, I slept well. I don’t think anyone was hurt; I was just dumbfounded by someone with so little honor that he would hit and then run away!
