Cell Phone Terrorist

I have my own personal terrorist. Somehow, somewhere, he got my phone number. If I forget to turn my cell phone off, he calls at around 2 in the morning. If I just hang up, he calls again.

He called me last night, again. After two calls (I wasn’t awake enough the first time to think about turning my phone off) I did turn the phone off and first thing this morning, cup of coffee in hand, I called him back.

He answered, sounding very confused and sleepy, and maybe Bangladeshi.

“I think you have the wrong number,” I said, and hung up.

Fifteen minutes later, he called again.

“Wrong number,” I said, and hung up.

AdventureMan asks me why I don’t put the phone on silent. I guess I could, but I would probably forget to put it back on ring the next day. I could leave the phone in another room at night, and I probably will.

  3. Does he only call at 2 am? Reject the call without picking it up because maybe he doesn’t understand what “wrong number” means and with enough rejected calls he might give up the idea that he has the wrong number.

If it seems to you that he is calling you at 2am every other day on purpose you definitely need to block his number.Check if Zain does that, I think they just might.

  4. OOO I have another idea! Have Adventure Man pick up the phone when you see his number and ask him to answer in a really loud and angry ALOOOOOOO!!! ALOOOOOOOO! Like really yell in a scary tone. That JUST might do the trick.

  5. Ugh. On some phones you can choose to block specific numbers – does yours allow you to do this? If not, call the mobile company and complain – and notify the police as well. How creepy!

  6. I got the same calls between 2-4 am, I always told him he was dialling a wrong number but kept on calling again and again, when I let my hubby answered him, he hung up and never called again until now 🙂

  7. Nicole – we’ve never had a problem before, ever!

I’m an imbecile? Kinan, I thought we were friends?

    7zaya – I never knew I could block a call. Great idea.

Oh wait! I just read your second idea! I love it!

Little Diamond – when you come, look at my phone for me, OK?

Aha, Rienne, you vote with 7zaya – I like that idea, too, especially the part about “and never called again.”

  8. Happens alot for no reason whatsoever..best thing to do is ignore it..let him call till he dies! hanging up on him while calling is considered a response and that someone is around. Ignore it for a while and it’ll stop!

  9. I had those. They basically would take their chances with anyone who sounds foreign. I sound American, so they think I am. I had my mother talk to one of them because she has a thick Kuwaiti accent. She told him “How many times you call me? If you don’t stop I will tell my husband” and he never called again.

This is what worked. I tried shutting off my mobile, putting it on silent and even diverting it to off.

  11. forward the call to a restaurant, a cab company, the local police station (since you have the number and all)…it always gets them. Although it will cost you some money, the pleasure you’ll get from confusing them is priceless.

After the second time, I guarantee you he’ll stop. (This strategy is called “the two strikes and you’re domino’s” guaranteed 100% effective.)

😉 Thank you Kinan, I kind of figured that, but wanted to tease you a little over the ambiguity.

GE&B – All of you are so CREATIVE with your solutions! Thank you!

  15. Me neither, except for very few wrong calls.
Hubby gets them all the time – in the middle of the night 😦

  16. I’m putting my husband on, too! Seems to be the most effective response.

  17. I take great personal delight in acting all sexy and seductive until they’re really getting into it, then I casually (and in the same tone) mention something about how I’d love to just rip certain organs right off or about how I’d slide a knife right through his skin or other similar such things. I have never had another crank call after that…it just freaks the living crap out of them. Mind you, this would only work with someone who has a sufficient understanding of the language. If not, I 2nd the having your hubby answer, pissed.

  21. LLLOLL, Mr. Aamir Mohamad, are you going to beat him up for me? Actually, I haven’t had one of those calls for a long time, so maybe he lost my number, insh’allah.
