Kuwait Driver’s License
“oh, I can’t,” I was telling my friend, “I have to go get my driver’s license today.”
“I had a funny thing happen,” she responded. “When I went, I didn’t understand the guy too well and he said something like ‘how long do you want it for?’ and I said ‘three years’ and I got one for three years!”
“You’re kidding!” I said. “I’ve been having to go every year!”
It doesn’t make sense, but you just never know in Kuwait. Every year for two years now I have had to go get my eyes tested and get a new license. But you never know, maybe her company has some other agreement, and she gets a three year license. Some things you just can’t worry too much about or it will drive you crazy.
So I went and took the 30 second eye test and later that same day my husband brought home my new driver’s license – good for TEN years.
If I had known I was going to get a ten year driver’s license, I sure would have made sure they used a better photo than the one my sponsor provided them. AAAARRRRGGGHHH.

it depends on your age. i think if you are over 50, you have to get it renewed every year.
Now if only we Kuwaitis can just as easily get 10 yr US visas π

that is why i have used the same photo taken in 2001 for everything. it turned out to be a good photo so my advice to u is take one photo and stick to it!

Mrm – I HAD a really good one. Our sponsors keep envelopes of our photos for visas and stuff, and I didn’t get a choice in which photo was used. I actually have had a couple really good ones. In Kuwait and in Saudi Arabia, I had little corner photographers who AIRBRUSHED my photos! Woooo HOooooo! You can read about it at an earlier entry by clicking on the blue “airbrushed” above.
Chirp – A good studio photographer will never let you leave the studio with a crap photograph. It’s in their best interest to make us look good. Try try again. Find someone for passport photos and see how he does. If he does well, get larger shots done. If I had known this was going to be a 10 year license, I would have gotten more photos made until I had one I liked!
