It’s The Law

There is something about Oregon I love. I don’t know if this is true anywhere else in the country, but in Oregon, you are not allowed to pump your own gas. So when it is cold and rainy and foggy and drizzly, you can sit in your warm car and someone else fills up your tank.

Just like Kuwait!

I asked the very nice young man who filled my tank if people ever tip him, and he said “Some people do!” with a big smile. I was happy to tip him for filling my tank.

(I asked him if I could take his photo for my blog, and he said “sure” it was fine. )

Wooo Hoooo, Oregon!

  5. New Jersey doesn’t allow self serve either and I think those are the only two states with that law. I think it is a job creation thing–it is an unskilled job that wouldn’t exist otherwise.

  6. Ansam – I agree, it is good to be able to do it, but nicer in the Kuwait heat and the PNW rain not to have to get out of the car! 🙂

I don’t know why, Pearls, I am thinking it is probably a safety thing. Oregon is sort of cutting edge with a lot of forward-thinking laws.

    LLOOLLL, Flana!

Elijah – I like it in the US where you can pay with credit card right at the pump

Is that so, Momcat? Job creation? Well, it works, doesn’t it? 🙂

  7. Really?! LOL… I never thought this existed in the US…
So even in the summer time, you aren’t allowed to fill up your own car?

  10. We don’t have this law in Colorado I presume. Which reminds me, aren’t you going to Colorado anytime soon? Rocky Mountains baby 😀

  11. As a matter of fact, Angelo, I will be visiting Colorado later on in the year. It is one of my very favorite places in the world. Gorgeous state, with those snowy mountains.
