Pigeon Thieves Nabbed

This crime report gives me a smile, because it is so cultural. In Seattle, where pigeons are so plentiful as to be a nuisance, it would be very hard to comprehend why anyone would steal a pigeon.

Living here, we know that some people treasure their pigeons, and that there are some pigeons for which people pay a LOT of money:

Night patrolmen nab pigeon thieves

KUWAIT CITY: Night patrol operatives arrested three youths who had stolen a number of pigeons from different pens in Kabad area. Sources said the team while on routine night patrol spotted the suspects in a car. They discovered the birds during a search in the suspects’ car.

The accused who confessed to the crime have since been referred to the concerned authorities for further investigations.

  2. Can someone come and steal the pigeons that hang around my balcony? They’re noisy and dirty and I hate them!!!

  3. Amu, a week ago or so, someone stole a whole bunch of pigeons and 72 incubators! Like, how did they do that???? I would think incubators would take up a lot of room. You’d have to have a truck to steal all those incubators. And wouldn’t it be hard to hide them?

Zaydoun – don’t you love the noise they make, that coo-ing? It’s just the pigeon poop that is so awful!

  4. hehe it is funny.
My grandfather treasured his pigeons. During the invasion we tried to convince him to move into our house because we have a basement and we often stayed there during the last days when the bombs became louder and came closer… but he kept saying “what about my pigeons?”. We told him that they may use chemical weapons, but he kept saying “what about my pigeons?”. When he passed away the coo-ing got louder and louder, I think they missed him. It may be a sad memory but pigeons always make me smile because they remind me of him 🙂

  5. Noura, I love your story. He must have been quite a man, your grandfather. 🙂 I have always found the pigeon sound very calming and comforting. I’m so glad it makes you smile. 🙂

  6. I keep finding new pigeons in our loft. I think they’ve run away from “home”.

I released them every morning (to give them time to find home) only to find the here again in the afternoon.

I’ve given up now… our loft is officially a pigeon hotel; and I am presumably a pigeon thief 🙂

  7. LLLLOOOLLL, Bu Yousef. You remind me of my middle sister, the one who would show up carrying a new cat and say “Look Mom! She followed me home!” with her big bright smile. She always got her way, LOL.

I am guessing the pigeons talk : cooooo! Coooooo! coooo! coooo!

*Translation* – This Bu Yousef guy is really coooooool; he gives us food, he lets us fly, he gives us a nice roof over our head and never teases us or chases us, this is a cooooooooool place to live.
