We’re All Related

We’re all related. My niece, Little Diamond, brought this article to my attention today:

Most Britons descended from male farmers who left Iraq and Syria 10,000 years ago (and were seduced by the local hunter-gatherer women)

Most Britons are direct descendants of farmers who left modern day Iraq and Syria 10,000 years ago, a new study has shown.

After studying the DNA of more than 2,000 men, researchers say they have compelling evidence that four out of five white Europeans can trace their roots to the Near East.

The discovery is shedding light on one of the most important periods of human history – the time when our ancient ancestors abandoned hunting and began to domesticate animals.

Some people set so much store on pedigree. I bet there are a lot of surprises in our DNA.

  2. LOL, Mrm, what if it is just a normal human self-loathing thing instead of an Arab self loathing thing?

  3. Intlxpatr :

Maybe that’s will explain the British affinity for Houmus (Syrian DNA ) and hard liquor (Iraqi DNA )

  4. LOL. I guess one of my pet peeves is people who believe that their bloodlines make them ‘special’, especially when bloodlines can be so easily corrupted. That’s why I love DNA testing; it shows how interrelated we all really are. Many of us from ‘good’ families have pirates or brigands or bigamists in our bloodlines; those just aren’t the ones we claim as our ancestors, LOL.

  7. And before that we all came from Africa.
Actually all of humanity shares an extremely small genetic base; we are all very closely related.

  8. You are right, Aafke. There is no pure blood; we’re all ‘mud-blood’, LLLLOOOLLL

  9. Theories about hommus and such are just silly! There is little relationship between party A and party B when the last common, direct ancestor the two parties share was about 10,000 years ago! There is little similarity bewteen UK folks and Arabs today (even and especially genetically)!

  10. I dunno, Bob, I like what the study showed, that there are common ancestors. But then that’s one of the horses I ride; disbelief in purity of blood. I believe we are all related.
