698-722 Text

Today I received a text from my bank telling me that a document from them had been returned as undeliverable and telling me to click on the blue hypertext with my banks name dot com.

It didn’t smell right, so I called my bank, and no, they had not sent that text.

Did you know when you get a phone call or text that seems odd to you that not only do you not have to answer, but you can go online and check that number? Just google the exact number and you will find records that show if it is a scam or telemarketer. It is a wonderful resource.

  1. Thanks for the heads up! I got a similar text message before that said my bank account has been suspended due to suspicious activities and that I needed to call a different phone number to reinstate it. But my problem was, I didn’t have an account with the said bank. I reported the sender’s phone number to Callercenter.com to raise a warning and also notified the FTC so they could shut the scam down. Be warned everyone!

  2. Thanks for the comment, Liz. You are right, it is easier to spot a scam when it is NOT a bank you use, but when it is, your instinct is to hit that blue type and solve the problem. It’s why I post these; just to get people to stop and think, even for just a second, before hitting that link.

Even better, what you did – inform the bank call center. Likely they know, but these things come in waves and a bank can be prepared for skittish customer calls.

  3. i got a warning saying my bank account would close soon, i don’t bank there so of course i thought someone had opened an account in my name… except that the phone number that was being texted is not available anywhere… like i use a different number to route all my calls … so there is no possible way they could have gotten that number other than randomly putting it in.
