Time for a new Mac
Last night, as I checked this blog, all of a sudden everything froze. Now and then that might happen. I turned it off, and rebooted. Nothing.
You know that feeling of sheer panic when you think you might be cut off?
I let it rest – sometimes when you walk away, it fixes itself. And sure enough it came back on, and I could log on and even picked up some e-mail. Maybe four minutes in, it froze again.
I bought this Mac in April of 2004 – I know, because I was back in the US for Sporty Diamond’s wedding, and I uploaded my first photos into iPhoto. I was IN LOVE. iPhoto lets me manage all my photos so easily, lets me organize, helps me in so many ways.
I have never had a moment’s problem with this computer. I’ve upgraded the operating system a couple times, tweaked things here and there, and never had a problem.
When the new Macs came out recently with the new operating system, I was feeling envious, but honestly, my current Mac is running so well . . .
Now, however, Adventure Man says “hey, this sounds like a great time for a new computer!”
He he he he he – I think so, too!
I hate to leave my current Mac behind – he has worked so hard, we’ve been partners, we’ve had so much fun together! Seems like he’s had enough, though, and it’s time to move on.

weird coincidence 🙂 – I got my VAIO in November 2004 and have recently been thinking: its time for a new laptop. This one has been a bit of a lemon anyway, and … when things start to go wrong, its not worth the worry!
happy shopping 🙂
It would be great timing because the new OS (10.5) just came out as well 🙂
The easiest way to transfer your work is by connecting a FireWire cable between the old and new mac then running the Migration Assistant Tool.
Ive had my vaio T for a few years now, which i guess is a couple of lifetimes in laptop world,, but its still running beautifully and still looks nice.. so im not planning to change it..
Seems like youre getting a new mac for Xmass, dont hurry and buy one yet ; ) ” Hint AM ” lool
Little Diamond – I remember when just about everyone in the family bought Vaio and just about everyone had bugs – I thought you switched a long time ago! What are you thinking of next?
3baid – no kidding! Yeh, that thought had crossed my mind. 😉 I think I am going to have the Computer people take care of the transfer, as I can get the computer to come on now, but maybe three minutes in, everything freezes. Everything.
Abdulaziz – You are one lucky man. For some reason my family members seemed to get buggy Vaio’s, quirky, unpredictable, and they have not been so happy with them. I like Macs just because they are so simple and do all writing and photo and graphic stuff I need.
But you raise an interesting question – would you let your wife buy a computer for you? For me, a computer is SO personal – it’s something you buy for yourself.Thank God, Adventure Man is the same way – he just bought a great laptop and had all kinds of extra goodies installed, so it is just he way he wants it. He is very kind and lets me use it right now while my own is not working more than three minutes at a time.
Honestly I prefer older Macs (PPC) over Intel Macs because they were more stable, but that doesn’t mean recent Macs aren’t; they’re way way better than normal PCs.
Good luck on getting a new one, you’ll get OSX 10.5 preinstalled. 😉
OMG! This is just like me few weeks ago. My computer was freezing all over the place until I got me a new MacBook with Leopard last week. If you have the budget, I say go for it.
Mac – I know this is petty, but when I bought my last Mac, the only color available was white. I know it was the trendy thing, but I never liked it; I like black or chrome or aluminum – or even like those blueberry jelly colored ones they had out about ten years agoI I would love a blueberry jelly Mac!
Angelo – I was so glad I had read your post when it started happening. Normally, I blame myself for anything that goes wrong, but knowing the exact same thing had happened to you helped me not to panic. Also knowing I am going to be able to buy a new one soon, helped. And Adventure Man letting me use his computer in the meantime also helps. I would totally panic otherwise!
But what is so weird to me is that I have NEVER had a problem with that Mac, never! This was so sudden, and so serious!
Seems your dreams can become reality [link] 😉
WOW! But none of those computers have Leopard!? I see I could have Blueberry metallic!
