Souk Mubarakiyya Art Fun

It’s no secret. I love the Souk Mubarakiyya, and I love all the handicrafts shops, the jewelry shops (it’s no sin! It’s also a handicraft!) and the food stalls. I even love the fish market, and the dark, seedy shisha place that looks like it is out of some bad movie.

Here is one of my favorite pieces of public art in the market. Not because it’s good, it isn’t. but it is a lot of fun. When you take guests to the souk, you can position one of your guests in front of the woman, and it looks like he/she is part of the market scene.

Magical Droplets says she is inspired, and has grabbed her camera to start shooting.

It’s summer. Not a lot going on . . . so here is my challenge to you, Kuwait Bloggers. Grap your camera. Show us the beauty you see, the beauty of your community, show us the beauty of Kuwait, even in the scorching, crispy heat of a Kuwait summer.

And please come back here and tell us when you’ve posted, so my non-Kuwaiti readers can also click through to take a look at what you see. Keep your camera handy – you never know when a perfect photo will come up.

  1. Interesting how sometimes certain images end up looking like a live part of the background.

Some of the pics I have taken that have the tag ‘Kuwait’:

  2. i always smile whenever i walk past that mural. it is extremely bad, but it does have its charm.

i’ve been thinking of taking photos here recently, especially after the over reaction to muna’s article. the seedier side of kuwait is something i think alot of people try to forget. altho i’m not trying to focus on the bad stuff here, it plays such a big part of life here that to ignore it is to not realy understand kuwait at all.

and the dark side has beauty all its own.

therefore i accept your challenge 😛

I do find hand made things and nice markets, but there was just something different in Kuwait! I can’t say what, but there I did enjoy some things there more than anywhere else! I miss Kuwait!!!! And girl; you are not helping!!! 😦

  5. Thank you, Sabah. You took some great water tower shots.

Skunk, I hear strains of Phantom of the Opera . . .the music of the night, and the glamorization of the dark side?

Thank you, Lady J, I am so glad you do!

Noracassandra, summer is a good time for a visit – lower traffic on the roads, not a lot of competition for seats in the good restaurants. . . and we have this wonderful thing called air conditioning that makes it livable!
